Hello to Sheila,
This is my first post.....
I have just seen in a family autograph book an entry by Ernest Hetherington of the Northumberland Fusiliers. He explains how he was injured in Ypres and the amputation of his right arm. Dated Feb 26 1915. If you are interested please contact me.

Hello Shez and welcome to rootschat.
Saw the message and had to contact you, are you a Hetherington or descended from them like me. John Thomas Richardson, my maternal grandfather and Ernest Jones Hetherington were 1st cousins. I have been researching the family for a while now and they are very interesting people.
I would love to hear more about Ernest if you are willing and will gladly share notes.
Regards
Patty  :)

Hi Patty,
No I'm not related at all but as I said I found his name in my husbands grandparents autograph book.
I thought his descendants would like to have a photocopy of it. I don't quite know how I can do this on this forum but you may know! As he had lost his arm 6 months before he wrote with his left hand and he didn't do a bad job.
It goes like this.
" I was wounded at the Battle of Ypres on the 14th of November 1914, was operated at the Hotel Astoria Paris, and my right arm amputated, sailed in the S. S. Asturious for Southampton. Signed  etc.... with his address.
The autograph book came to Australia in 1919.

How wonderful Shez, your husbands grandparents must have met him if he signed their book, and what a nice thought of yours to share it, I'm delighted to add the information to my tree and I hope Sheila gets in touch with you soon.
Sorry don't know how to scan the autograph, I'm not very good with computers, however there are some very kind, helpful people on roots chat and I'm sure they would know.
Many thanks
Patty  :)

Got a bit excited and pressed wrong key ::), should of added, it's very clear for his left hand, must have been a very brave and determined man. So glad you found it Shez.
Thanks again
