Meant to add, has anyone in the family then got that 1928 BC under Savage for Mary in Youghal? Thinking of Mary being there with the Registrar and getting a copy or verification from the register there which I would guess be working off key facts (her birth date and maybe mother's name even if father was showing as John Savage?).

Monica

Hi Monica,

Mary had the certificate when she swore in front of JP in 1981, so I hope family still have these documents. She was swearing that Mary Savage and Mary Conroy born 12 Sep 1928 was same person. I have never seen it yet.

Just spotted your tree on a/try. Showing son John born c. 1925 in Glasgow (14 Shuttle Lane, Glasgow). Is that correct, that son John was born in Scotland? What did John's DC say in 1982 that you show? Was mother also Elizabeth?

Hi Monica,

That looks like the entry, I am sure I have seen it before but because of the Oct to Dec quarter I was put off. My brother in law is looking at family documents tomorrow, a bit of a slow starter. I have just phoned him to chase him up, again.
I wonder if he was late registering the birth so 12 September was carried into the next quarter.

Sorry that is a mistake, these are the details for his father Michael. I have done a quick edit on Ancestry.

Would be interesting to see if this is the correct birth certificate-
Mary Savage, July/Sept.1928 Enniscorthy district [Wexford], volume 4 page 390- mother's maiden name Conroy
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F13Z-8J4

Possible sibling-
Alice Savage (1936) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F1WC-B44
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Monica et All,

Thanks for all your efforts, I have now got a  birth certificate of my mother-in-law, and it gives a few  answers but raises multiple questions.

Registration Number - 4906447 in Youghal, Co. Cork. Number 382, date 12 September 1928 at the Cottage Hospital, Youghal UD,
child name - Mary, Female,
Father - Michael Savage, Carey's Lane, Youghal,
Mother - Elizabeth Savage formerly O'Donnell,
Father Occupation - Labourer,
Informant - Maggie Mahony, Present at Birth, Cottage Hospital, Youghal.
Date of Registration - 30th October, 1928.

Who is Maggie Mahony, informant, who was "Present at Birth"?
Was there a "Carey's Lane" in Youghal, I have googled the one in Cork City?
Need to find a marriage for Elizabeth O'Donnell, looking for spouse surname Savage or Conroy.
Scotland - Buchanan, Thomson, Pat(t)erson, Stewart, Ritchie, Tracey
Ireland - Tracey, Conroy, Pat(t)erson.

I've noticed when looking at Irish birth certificates that the informant is often a nurse or midwife rather than a person actually related to the family.

I take it you know about https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ ?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
