This old rootsweb post would suggests William's parents were Archibald McAlonan and Mary Murray, who lived at some stage in Ligoneil:

   Should Scotmum be correct Archibald and Mary married on 15 Jan 1861 in Ballysillan Presbyterian Church, Shankill, Belfast.

I've been in touch with a descendant of McAlonin/ McAlinan families in Kilraughts/ Loughgiel area; not sure that he has been in touch very recently but let me know if you want contact
