Hi John -
I have found the census details and added some birth details that I have found:
1841 census, St Lawrence, Jersey -
Collins -
Thomas
Susan
John
Thomas
Eliza
Maria
Ann
Jane
1851 census, St John, Jersey -
Collins
Thomas, male, widower, 70 farmer of 9 acres b. England;
Maria, daugh, unmarr, 42, b.England;
Mary Ann, daugh, unmarr, 26, b. St Saviour, Jersey;
Eliza, daugh, unmarr, 23, b. St Lawrence, Jersey;
Ann, daugh, unmarr, 20, b. St Lawrence, Jersey;
Jane, daugh, unmarr, 18, b. St Lawrence, Jersey.
We think the relevant births are:
St Lawrence:
Jean (i.e 'John') b. 4 March 1822; bapt 24 March 1822, to Thomas Collins and Suzanne Laurens;
Thomas bapt 11 Sept 1825, to Thomas Collins and Suzanne Laurens;
Eliz: Maud bapt 27 Jan 1828, to Thomas Collins and Suzanne Laurens;
Ann bapt 2 May 1830, to Thomas Collins and Suzanne Laurens;
Jane Bapt 9 Sept 1832, to to Thomas Collins and Susanne Messervy.
St Saviour's, Jersey:
Marie Anne Collins, bapt 2 May 1824, to Thomas Collins and Susanne Laurens, (godparents): Philippe Romeril and Molly Mauger sa femme (i.e 'his wife').
N.B. English and French language is used inconsistently! and it is normal in Jersey to use the wife's maiden name for official purposes -
I hope this helps - let me know if you need more information.
Mike
