Hi rolnora

Well, Richard died in 1861, so that fits in with both the census and the delay in baptism and so supports the theory re the 'private baptism'.

Just to add another 'fly in the ointment'... one of the real mysteries with Annie is that on her wedding certificate, her father is shown as 'James Butler (dec)' ( NOT Richard!)... I have spent many hours trawling through records to see if I could find a 'James Butler' with a daughter Annie, born in Cheadle but to no avail. The only one I can find that fits in every way apart from the father's name, is the Annie subject of this thread. I know it is not uncommon for 'little white lies' or such inaccuracies to appear on Marriage Certificates but usually there is some reason for this?

I can't help but think this is my Gt Grandmother Annie but can't be 100% sure unless I could solve this mystery!

I suppose this is what makes our hobby so enthralling!
