BENNALLACK - Devon and Mexico
« on: Saturday 20 December 14 11:23 GMT (UK) »
I have extracted the following from 1881, piece 2172, folio 21, page 15:-

Mary Ann Bennallack 41.   b.Tavistock. Mine agent's wife
Louisa.                           19.  b. Tavistock
Anna Maria.                   16. b. Mexico (aka Hannah Maria/Mary Ann)
William John.                 12. b. Mexico
Amelia.                              9  b. Brixham

The inference is that husband/father William (b 1835, Mary Tavy) was still alive. Living overseas?

I would welcome any information relating to the coming and goings of this family.

The age is about right but not the occupation  (farmer) - There is a Wm Bennallack showing on a New York passenger List 6 July 1888 - aged 53 years - Liverpool to New York on the City of Rome. Description Farmer.

Looks like him in 1911 on the free family search site :-

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW9H-PPF

Wonder if he remarries Mabel L Bastard - June 1914 - Totnes Devon.

William of Brixham Devon retired miner died 27 April 1916 - probate Exeter 18th May to Mabel Littleton Bennallack - widow - effects - $1280

The UK Incoming Passenger Lists don't start until 1878 so the family would not show on there return.

Guillermo is the Spanish form of William- wonder if this record is for the Anna Maria in 1881 census?

The above records list mother's surname as Villamo and an online tree gives it as Williams so could be Anna Maria.

Sandra - that looks good.
Mary Hannah Bennallack died Sep Q 1890, Totnes aged 51. Mary Hannah(Anna) Williams/Bennallack born 1839.
William Bennallack died Jun Q 1916 Totnes, aged 80.
All details match with what I know of my couple.
Not so sure about the passenger in 1888.

Agadowey - A stroke of genious! Mother's maiden name Williams (Villamo)

P S .  I see you have already reached the same conclusion!
