Re: Early Baptism Record

In the first two entries of baptisms it says son of , but later says daughter of. Can someone explain what daughter of means in this Baptism attachment? Is it the mothers maiden name for the son or another entry on the same day ( possibly an unnamed basechild)?
Thanks

Maybe the Rector didn't know the first name of the Marshalls or the Arhursts

  - it does look like that doesn't it - don't know though!

Thanks Wiggy,
I am hoping it is just a second entry on the 1st two dates and not the mothers maiden name of the son as that mucks up my tree.
Cheers

 :-\ :-\

Could be another entry  for same day, but it doesn't look like that, with no child's name or parent's name -  :-\ ::).

You'd think the child at least would have been named wouldn't you, if it were a second entry on one day??   :-\

Maybe Sarah Ring's maiden name was Akhurst - But why enter like that for just those two baptisms.

Will be watching to hear what others say for this one!

Checked the page again. There are another 19 entries, most saying daughter of BLANK surname following a baptismal entry. Only a couple mention the first name which is male. I am beginning to think it is the mother's maiden name. But why dont all entries have it?

 :-\

P.s The baptisms are from St Mary's Lewisham, Kent.

Just read your post properly  ::) , don't know for sure, but it reads to me that the mother is the daugher of ......  hence my guess that it's the maiden name.   Is there a marriage entry for either of these  couples to be found to cross check the maiden name?

I have this terrible habit of half reading things, posting replies and then ending up looking like a twit  for not reading things properly in the first place!  ;D ;D ;D
