Moore in Carclinty
« on: Saturday 27 December 14 14:33 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the cemetery where Jacob Moore is buried.  He was born about 1845, married Agnes Gamble in 1864 at Finvoy Presbyterian Church, and died Oct 25, 1903 in Carclinty.  Jacob is a son of John William Moore and Margaret Carson.

I don't know where Jacob Moore was buried but I do know that there isn't a headstone for him in Finvoy Presbyterian churchyard. Have you checked for a newspaper death notice?

Aghadowey,

thanks.  i am not aware of an online site for newspapers which might contain his obituary.
In the 1901 Census he was living on a farm in the townland of Carclunty.  is it likely that  the Ballymena papers would contain an obituary for someone living in Carclunty?

Bisjam,
Thanks. I have information about Thomas Benjamin Moore and his family in Oregon. A couple of years ago, I visited his daughter, Mary, in Oregon City.
I have been curious about his middle name, Benjamin, that he did not appear to have in Ireland.  His father, Jacob, had an uncle in Canada as well as a cousin in Montana with the same name .

Microfilmed copies of Ballymena papers are at Ballymena Library and the Newspaper Library, Belfast. I don't think any are online.

For reference- Probate of the Will of Jacob Moore late of Carclinty County Antrim Farmer who died 16 October 1903 granted at Belfast to Hugh Wright and William Reid Farmers Unfortunately his Will doesn't mention any burial instructions.

Hello Kevin

I know the Mary Moore in Oregon you mentioned.  She was my grandfather Leslie's sister.  My father has mentioned Thomas Moore as his grandfather.  We are talking about the same people.  I appreciate the census record posted.  I see in there Jacob whom Mary has mentioned as her grandfather.  I met John Moore In Scotland in 1987. He is the grandnephew of Thomas Benjamin.  I am very interested in this family as well as Jemima Lamont.  They lived a long time ago but I am interested more information about them and their descendants who could be my second and third cousins.  Is there any information about Jacob Moore and his spouse and his ancestors?
Sincerely,
Rick Moore

Rick,

I have a fair amount of information about Jacob and Jemina's children.
I am not sure how to get this to you.
The grandfather of John Moore (Scotland 1987) was the eldest son of Thomas Benjamin and remained behind in ireland when the family moved to the US.
