Have you checked Scotland's People? Nicholforest forms part of the border with Scotland and the northern edge of Stapleton parish is only about three miles from Scotland. When I transcribed the Nichforest registers about 18-20 per cent of marriages were "cross border"unions.
N.B. Stapleton transcription is on its way (sometime in 2015). May be of interest.
