Elsberry - Fenwick - Pittington
« on: Tuesday 30 December 14 12:01 GMT (UK) »
One pair of my 4x great grandparents were William Elsberry and Jane Fenwick who were married at Pittington on 3rd November 1792. I have no information about their dates (or even years) of birth or their parents. To add to my problems being an old Essex boy the county of Durham is way out of my comfort zone when it comes to researching.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Victor - that is certainly the same family.  Family search gives the baptism of Mary Jane Elsberry to William and Jane in Pittington on 13/09/1795 -often the second given names are the used ones. At under a year old she would have been described as an infant.

Thanks JenB -saw your post just in time before sending this. I am also aware of two further children Thomas and Fenwick - Fenwick being my 3x great grandfather

I was hoping that the baptism of Thomas, since it fell within the 'Shute Barrington' era, might give some sort of lead by giving details of the native parishes of his parents.

However I see that by this time Jane was a widow, and that Thomas was illegitimate  :(

So that means that William died sometime between 1795 and 1808?  That should be traceable.

Did you not have this record?

I can't find any burials so far
Durham Records Online has Pittington records, as does freeReg but nothing showing  :(
