census look up for Wright Crossland please

Hello:
Hope I have posted this message in the right spot. I am looking for a Wright Crosland/Crossland son of my 3grgrandparents. I last census I have him in England is the 1861 census aged 10 yrs. The family were living in Bradford Yks. England.

Wright Crosland was born in Holmfirth , Yks on the 1861 census. I have just done a search for him on familysearch site and I found a Wright Crossland on the 1881 US census in Philadelphia, Pennnsylvania   age 30 yrs old  single born in England. I have a feeling that this is the Wright Crosland I am looking for?? As Wright is not a common first name!!

Could SKS look up on the 1891 census or any of the census record for him. I am hoping it will list a place of birth for him.

Also could not find a death for him anywhere in England.

Hi Anne,

US Census are taken on the 10 --  so 1880, etc.

The 1890 Federal Census was damaged by fire and is not avail.

Checked 1900 Census but did not find any listing in Philadelphia or elsewhere for Wright Cros(s)land b. 1851 in England.

Did he have a middle name he might have used?

Did find in 1890 Philadelphia City Directory:
George W. Crosland
Salesman
h (ome): 1104 Fairmount Ave

US Census do not give a specific place of birth.  It will only say "England".  And will indicate country of origin for both parents.  And depending on which census year, may indicate Immigration Year.

Thanks for the information. At this point I don't know if Wright had a middle name. I am going to send for his birth certicate. So hopefully it will say on it.

I've found a Wright Crossland b. 1851 Holmfirth Yorks
on 1861 census - which you have
1879 ships manifest occupation Dyer
1880 US census Philadelphia

I've also found another Wright Crossland b. 1844 Derbyshire
!871 1881 1891 1901 census

Another Wright Crossland b. 1887 Wooldale Yorks  - which is obviously too young - but looks like family (naming patterns etc....)
1901 census - Father John Crossland

There are quite a few others which may be related - let me know if you need anybody in particular!!

Thank you very much for sending the copies. It gives me more to work with.  I still think the Wright Crossland in the States could be the one I am looking for.  Tomorrow I am going to order the birth certificate for Wright Crosland. So will let you know when I get it.
