Death Certificate
« on: Tuesday 30 December 14 13:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

A "Bucket List" request.

My Family Tree is pretty well sorted, except for my male ancestor, Samuel Fisher Greaves. Burial Records as below, but advised that no Death Certificate is available and that burial records aren't a prerequisite for one. So, the proverbial "Brick Wall".

Any clues as to how to go about finding details would be much appreciated.

Full Name:
Samuel Fisher Greaves

Date or Year of Birth:
30th Dec 1808

Place of Birth:
Nottingham

Names of Parents:
John Greaves and Margaret Fisher

Parents Year and Place of Marriage:
4th July 1806 Nottingham

Names of Brothers and Sisters:
Edward Fisher Greaves, John Greaves, John Fisher Greaves, Elisabeth Greaves, Henry Greaves.

Rod Neep got all these for me years ago from his personal Nottingham database, before he went on to found Archive CD Books.

I'm currently undergoing bladder cancer treatment so can't lay my hands on the birth/baptism dates.  :(

Name of Spouse:
Caroline Barnett

Year and Place of Marriage:
Leamington Spa 1838?

Spouses Year and Place of Birth: ?

Names of Children - their year and place of birth:
Have all these and can trace them okay.

Year and Place of Death:
5th October 1853 Winchester, Hampshire

Residence:
1851 Winchester Census night recorded as alive.

Many thanks rosie17. Quite a bit of information there. Much appreciated.  :)

Now, if only I could trace Samuel Fisher Greaves' Death Certificate around 5th October 1853 in Winchester, Hampshire. Pretty sure that will be him.

Sounds plausible thanks jim1. What does 7b/88 mean?

Is Winchester, Hampshire far from Basford Nottinghamshire?

He and his siblings were all born in Nottingham, so being returned home for burial would make sense I would imagine.

I've not yet traced his siblings, nor the three generations back Rod Neep gave me.

Edward Greaves m. Mary

John Greaves m. Jane

John Greaves m. Ann

The burial is in Winchester.   It is about 160 miles from Winchester to Nottingham but he could have been visiting Nottinghamshire when he died and the body returned to Winchester.
