Trying to locate Dale Ingram (1710-1793) in Reading, where he was probably apprenticed before becoming a practicing surgeon ((1733-c1745).
Any help appreciated.

Andrew.

Hi

He was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire - you have all the details on another post about his parents & siblings.  Why do you think he was in Reading.

His " Essay on the Cause and the Seat of Gout" was dedicated to a "William Strode, Esq". In it he thanks William for employing him as his family surgeon.

It is dated "Reading, March 21, 1742-43"

He started his medical career by "apprenticeship" in Reading, presumably to a more experience surgeon in 1733 before starting practice (DNB), was still there in 1739 (court case info from another poster), and published his first work on gout from there as you say in 1743. The same year he left for Barbados where he stayed until 1750. He doesn't appear to have returned to Reading again.

Thanks,
Andrew.
