The kidnapping and murder of my half-nephew Philip Porter was indeed tragic.
I am Edmund Porter's son Richard Porter. My mother was his second wife Julia Porter. My nephew Ross Hedley just came across your post and suggested I reply if the thread is still active.
I am in possession of my Father's diaries from his time settling near Strongfield, Saskatchewan in 1905. These diaries are a meticulous record of the time with numerous photographs of neighbours and his workings. He was born in London in 1879 and Died in Duncan, British Columbia in 1972.
If there is still interest, I don't recall a mention of Tom Wilmot but will need to search again.
My father also kept a fascinating diary of his service  in the Boer War, again with numerous photographs. He served with the British South African Constabulary but was attached to Canada's Strathcona's Horse and references the killing of Colonel Ogilvy.
