Hi Gadget - I'm completely new here.  However, I stumbled across your post (via Google) trying to find some details about an Adam Burgess who lived in Mansfield, Victoria, Australia for a period.

Mr Burgess is considered to be the founder of the local paper here - The "Mansfield Courier" (which appears to also have been known as the "Woods Point Leader").  I work for the local Council here and am researching Mr Burgess as a request has been made to name a laneway with his name - the laneway is behind the original location of the Courier offices.  Here is a link to the relevant Courier issue (see page 2) - https://issuu.com/provincialpressgroup/docs/mc150_020817

I also found a link to a death notice on Trove - https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/139125579 - for an Adam Burgess who died in Napier (you found a similar record elsewhere) and notes that he was late of the Melbourne "Age" which is a major newspaper in Melbourne.  I think this may fit with the Adam Burgess who was the proprietor of the Courier here.

I hope you find this helpful and that this is a match for the Adam Burgess you are researching.
