Does he survive till 1851?
You may get an idea of where he was born then.
As it is pre1837 there will be no record of his birth , just a parish register of a christening, if he was christened.

Don't forget that ages in the 1841 were rounded down to the nearest five, so a 74 year old would be shewn as 70.
Someone will correct me if I am wrong in this   :) mike

Hi ladies,
I've just tried to post a reply but mazi beat me to the punch!
I have located a burial for a John JONES in Cirencester as follows:-
4th February 1843, John JONES, aged 74, at St John the Baptist, Cirencester.
The dates fit and Bisley is close to Cirencester. I suggest you check the burial record at Glos Archives.
PFC 86 IN 1/18 2.
Good hunting!

That burial record shows John Jones' abode as Sapperton.  The address on the '41 census for John Jones, clock maker is Oakridge Linch (Oakridge Lynch), which is close to Sapperton and Bisley.

Can't thank you all enough for this, you do brilliant work on here, i only hope in the future i will be able to help someone in return.  Its been really hard trying to sort this side of the family out, as others on ancestory seem to have put two families together and feel like we are now getting somewhere. Once again thanks

John Jones - Julius Jones - Abraham Jones
« Reply #7 on: Thursday 27 January 22 20:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi lorlor53
I have found this thread after a Google search and hope you may be able to make a link!

I am trying to tie down a John Jones, father to Julius Jones, my Great Great Great Grandfather. I have Julius' baptism dated 7th February 1808 in Bisley, stating John Jones as the father. I've traced Julius through a maariage record in 1830 to a Sarah Jones (cousin?) in Bisley, then through a series of his children's baptism records in Bisley (Alfred, Ellen and Emma). He then moves to Gloucester where my Great Great Grandfather George Henry is born in 1938. The 1841 census shows him living in Bristol  (wife Sarah, children Alfred, Emma, George, Hester, as well as a Thomas Jones and Thomas Tuck). After having another child, Hester in Bristol in 1843, he then has his last child, Pamela in Shoreditch, East London in 1846. The rest of his life, until his death in 1879, is in the East End / Essex where my mother's line come from (appearing in all censuses).

The closest link I can find is a possible brother being an Abraham Jones (as mentioned in your post on rootschat 7 years ago). Abraham is born 4 years later in the same village, by the same father's name, John Jones.

Is this John Jones the father of both men?

Would love to make a match - let me know if you think you have anything.

Thanks!

Nick
