« on: Sunday 11 January 15 10:20 GMT (UK) »
Thomas JOHNSON m. Matilda Marguerite MURPHY May 6th 1889 Ballysax  Church, Co. Kildare

Can anyone please decipher Thomas's rank/profession as given?

Also his residence was given as Curragh, presumably in the Army Barracks
I would also appreciate some hints to help locate his army records

All or any help appreciated

2nd Class Staff Sergeant - officially Army Service Corps from the year before. The army used ASCC&T for indexing regimental births for example well into the 20th Century. So ACC is just another version, probably for Army Commissariat (and Transport) Corps.

His record is on Findmypast. It all ends in tears. He is discharged in 1907 (after 35 years) as a Driver (equivalent to Private).

Thank you Ken for the clear description
Can you guide me to locate him on FindMyPast
I have a subscription but can't work out which man he may be
I have gone through several records and none fit the man I am searching for
Thomas's father was also Thomas and his wife was Matilda Marguerite MURPHY m 1889

Thanks again

This should take you to the last page in the set. There is a lot of crossing out, including the name of his wife. I believe you can make out Matilda. But the clincher is the date he was put on the married establishment (bottom of same page) matches the marriage date. Once you have saved them it may pay to get them printed in A3 Colour. They will be a lot easier to read.

Ken
Sincerely Thank you
The only anomaly is that his Irish marriage certificate shows his father's name as Thomas and this as Francis but stranger things have happened

Ken,
from the very bottom of my heart, thank you! I discovered myluck's other fantastic thread about Thomas Johnson and his wife last night and have just seen this one now. I can't believe you've led me to my great-grandfather's full military record!

I have two surviving uncles, and I can't begin to tell you how much this will mean to them.

Kindest Regards,
Thomas (Tom) Johnson.
