Harry West miltary service WW1
« on: Tuesday 13 January 15 14:10 GMT (UK) »
Harry West was born 1898 in London but moved to Derby where he joined up and served with The Kings Rifles.  We have hit a brick wall trying to find a service number or any information as we have been told he went awol.
How would we find this information?

Hi,

Are you aware that around 70% of WW1 service records were destroyed in the bombing in WW2?  His record could have been destroyed.

Hi,

The archivist for The Kings Rifles might be able to help you.

This might be him:  Harry West  52851 Kings Royal Rifle Corps; service papers on Ancestry.co.uk.  Father shown as William, living in Camberwell.

Could he be under Harry Slater as it looks like he was possibly adopted, father John Slater?

Hello again,
I have some more information.
Harry West was born in London and in 1901 he was living in Willesden Middx with his parents James W West and Rosa (nee Smith). He was one of 8 children.
He was not adopted or changed his name, thanks for the help so far.
