Looking at the National Archives medal search engine, his regiment number is listed as "101" - this can also be seen on your scan, but this appears almost as "7101". I'm sure there is some mileage here somewhere. Have you followed the instructions in this forum for obtaining someones service record, they may help.

I'm beginning to wonder whether he was part of either the Royal Marines, or the Royal Marines Light Infantry.

SpongeBob
I feel we might be getting nearer!!
Good to list of medals it does confirm that this unit really did exist.
I will try again with the service records. I can try with both numbers.
I have been to Kew and found records for his brother and nephew but failed with him
If I can gather a bit more information I will try Kew again.
I feel there must be something about the Unit even if not about him personally
Thank you for all your help

Could the 'regt' (101) referred to on his medal sheet refer to 'battery 101'? If so, battery 101 was part of 64th Brigade Royal Garrison Artillery. The RGA were part of the Royal Artillery responsible for, amongst other things - coastal batteries.

Just a thought - off to do more digging.

jocie,MTD usually is motor transport depot, but in this case it may mean, military transport depot, theres a big difference, because this covers all transport including trains, when he first arrived there he was a warrant officer class 1,which means hes been in the army quite a long time before the war,his numbers 7101 not 101,thats what it is on the medal card, mack.
ps i bet you have bald patches all over your head through pulling your hair out on this one :D :D
