Lawrence Crompton Barton-upon-Irwell b. C 1781

Hi.  Searching for (my) family, Cromptons of Barton-upon-Irwell.
I have Lawrence and his wife Margaret, both b. C 1781, with son (or grandson) John Crompton b. 1843 with his wife Frances Jane Yates.
At this stage I am looking for the parents of Lawrence, along with trying to make contact with any (distant or otherwise!) relations.

I do have a long list of children of John and Frances, although I have come across the same family with the mother just referred to as Wedderburn. Perhaps a step-mother?

I would be grateful for any help with these, please!

Looking at the ages of Lawrence and Margaret - both 72 at the time of the 1851 census I would have said John Crompton b 1843 was more likely to be a grandson than a son. The image says "son" but all the other family members are listed as unmarried.

There's a marriage in Eccles 16/08/1797 for a Lawrence Crompton and Margaret Bate.
