Sweden - Ryden family
« on: Tuesday 20 January 15 15:46 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to prove or disprove a connection between several RYDEN families found in Washington, Connecticut USA late 1800's.  Have not found immigration data on two men but they both appear first on the 1880 census and are believed to have arrived abt 1871.  John Ryden and Solomon Ryden.  They both have married and have families and both are farmers.  John b. abt 1849 and Solomon b. abt 1850.  By 1900 another has arrived by name of Lynus who is b. abt April 1860.  He is also married and has a family in Washington on the 1900 census and is a farmer.  He states his immigration as 1882.  I believe I have found his departure from Goteborg 2 Jun 1882 which gives his place of birth as Bararyd Smaland.  I have seen Lynus/Linus linked to parents Anders Magnus Ryden and Stina Mork but have no proof this is correct information.  Are there any church records that will connect these RYDEN men into one family?   Any advice or assistance would be gratefully received!

Best wishes
Jean

Anders Victor – b. 1847
Johan Emil – b. 1849
Gustaf Hjälmar – b. 1850
Emma Christina – b. 1854
Alma Maria – b. 1859

According to a couple of trees on Ancestry there is a Solomon, Emma, Linus and a John A. Rydén in USA that match this family with parents Anders Jönsson and Sara Stina Andersdotter.
Many of the dates of births and arrivals match all the info I have found here in Sweden.
I believe this to be the family of your Linus from Båraryd. Where the name Rydén came from is a big question.
I suppose the name was changed on the way to America. Only Linus seems to have the name Rydén in Sweden.

She left with a Maria Andersdotter.

Just read the father Anders Jönsson's Will/Inventory of Estate from 1883 and it states that 4 of his children Johan August, Salomon, Linus and Emma are living in North America.

Their mother Sara Stina Andersdotter died in 1893 and in her Will/Inventory of Estate it states that her children Johan August, Salomon, Linus and Emma still living in North America have given a friend power of attorney for the execution of her will.

Hi Ian

You've outdone yourself as always!  :)  I am very convinced that they are all related and am thrilled you have provided the correct parents for them.  Interesting about the surname change too.  I wasn't expecting that!  I am working on the tree for a friend and they will be surprised with the info.

Many thanks for your kind assistance!!

Best wishes
Jean
