James Francis Balson and Eliza Agnes Lebbon
« on: Wednesday 21 January 15 10:31 GMT (UK) »
I seek the details of an 1869 marriage for James Francis Balson and Eliza Agnes Lebbon which I think took place in Orford, Suffolk  (BMD says Q2, 1869 4a, 899 PLOMSGATE).  He was a local coastguard.  My interest is the parents of both and their occupations to go further back in the line.

Before I order the cert and bear the exorbitant cost, I wondered if there was any local record?

Many thanks if you can help.

Can't help with the marriage (could be Orford, but could equally be Sudbourne, Eliza's birthplace per later censuses).  You may want to keep a note of these possible Eliza references for when you have the marriage details.

Birth: Eliza Agnes LEAVOLD, Jun qtr 1850 Plomesgate 12 434

1851 census: Eliza LEBLE, 1 b Sudbourne, in Sudbourne with parents George (labourer) and Eliza.

1861 census: Eliza SEABORN, 11 b Sudbourne, in Sudbourne with parents George (ag lab) and Eliza.

When you say "exorbitant cost" re certificates I hope you're not planning to pay more than the £9.25 the GRO charge?  It would be significantly more via a commercial middleman.

Family History (Mormons) have the marriage listed. Do you have an FHS centre near you where you could look up the marriage?

Thanks to you both - no local FHS centre nearby regrettably.  My comment re the cost is simply that I can't see why they don't come into the 21 century and dispense with paper.  They could email the info, save paper and postage and surely this could reduce the £9.25 fee (especially given that copies of many marriage certs are now on the internet anyway).

Dear Tinam - when you say listed, do you mean on IGI because I can't find it?  There are some records for the children's christenings but no marriage.  Also, if they do have it listed, I assume this means it must come from Parish records and not some non-conformist event?

Thanks Jan57.  I have these (and some more) but this is why I need the marriage to ensure that I have the right parents. It looks like he followed his father into the bakers but at some time after 1851 changed his mind and went into the navy and then follows this with joining the coast guard.  So, it fits but I want to be certain.

Hi I found the marriage using search engine at family history (Mormons) I thought they had got rid of the IGI, but don't quote me!
It came from Eng/Wales Marr Rego.
Same as what you would find in Free BMD.
Not much help.
