Esther Allen
« on: Saturday 24 January 15 11:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I have an Esther/Hester Allen who gives her place of birth as Islip, Northamptonshire (according to the 1851 census), circa 1808/1809?

Esther is recorded in the baptism of two children:

Joseph Allen baptised 20th May 1832 Twywell, Northamptonshire

Daniel Allen born c 1835, baptised 1st January 1837 Twywell, Northamptonshire

On both of these baptisms Esther is recorded as Hester Allen

I believe Esther married James Farrow on 21 December 1845 at Twywell, although on the records at Ancestry he is down as being called James Fanes?

Have found Esther and James on the 1851 and 1881 census but cannot find her inbetween nor any death records?

On the 1851 census there is also a John Farrow born 1837 and James Farrow born 1840, both Twywell. Don't know if these are James Farrows children to another wife or not?

There is a record of a baptism of a James Farrow on 8th April 1855 at Twywell, son of a Jameson Farrow and his wife Esther?

If anyone can help with Esther Allens parents, death or help fill in any of the gaps above I would be very grateful! :)

Ancestry has them in 1871 but is transcribed badly. They have them as James  Farnes 71  farm labourer and Hester Farnes 62 in Thrapston. Living with them is Mary Hankine age 83, wife mother (mother-in-law). When you look at the image of the census enumerator's book, however, the surname is clearly Farrow.

Very good that this tells you who Esther/Hester's mother was!

Have found them in 1861 too. Ancestry has them as James Harren 61 ag lab with wife Hester age 52 and son James age 21 ag lab. This time the writing on the image is a bit difficult, as the F does look like an H.

I found both entries by entering only an age and location into a search for the specific census. Gave me everyone in Twywell of the right age, and it became obvious which were the right ones.

There is a death registered in Thrapston in 1890 for Esther Farrer age 82. I suspect this is your Esther.

Hello
Like you I'm having a bit of trouble with the different transcriptions of that marriage.
The GRO Dec 1845 15 805 Thrapston has him as James Farrer.
I do think however he is James Farrow.
On Familysearch his father is given as James and there is a baptism that fits at Twywell
10.10.1800 to James and Elizabeth Farrow.
Buried Twywell 30.12.1883 age 83.

It does look as though he was married before
John Farrow bapt Twywell 10.10.1835 to James and Mary Farrow labourer
Also daughter Sarah 3.2.1834 to James and Mary.

The 1841 census for Esther has her and the two Allen boys in Thrapstone Workhouse
Esther Allan 30 servant y
Joseph 9 illegitimate y
Daniel 6 y

James is again in as Farrer High St Twywell
James Farrer 41 ag lab
Mary 41 y
Emily Beall 11 y
Sarah Farrer 6 y
James 1y

Wife Mary may be the Mary Ferrer who died June 1842 Thrapstone 12 258.

1871 census Twywell as James Farnes
James Farnes 71 farm labourer Twywell
Hester 62 Islip
Mary Hankine/s ? 89 wife's mother widow  Islip

1861 as Harren
James Harren 61 ag lab Twywell
Hester 52 Islip
James 21 ag lab Twywell.

Death for Esther Mar 1890 Thrapstone
Esther Farrer age 82 3b 151

I'll have another look for her mother and birth

hi
Tracked down Mary's second marriage
Twywell 28.9.1819 to Thomas Hankin Familysearch
Twywll 20.9.1819 to Thomas Flanders of Orlingbury (Mary of Twywell and witnesses James and Sarah Percival) Free Reg

I do wonder if Mary was a widow or spinster in 1819 but Free Reg doesn't say
There is a possible baptism 22.4.1787 Mary Allen to Daniel and Elizabeth Allen at Islip

Children at Orlingbury for Thomas and Mary
Samuel 22.8.1824 and Allen Hankins 24.12.1820

1841 census Orlingbury
Mary Ankins  55 widow y
Samuel 17 ag lab y

1851 Orlingbury
Samuel Aukins 26 farm lab Orlingbury
Mary 32 Shingsthorpe
Susan 4 Orlingsbury
Mary 63 widow pauper Islip

Hope that helps.
