1871 Census Illegible ???
« on: Monday 26 January 15 09:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone make out the script for me in the 1871 census, Elizabeth Ward born 1841 in Market Rasen, Some of it is readable, she is registered as Niece but can not make out the Head of the House, she is there with sister Margaret, two years older, I thought the head of house was a Joiner by Occupation.

Thanks

Hi there,

On Freecen the transcription is -
1871 Market Rasen Lincolnshire,
  5 George Street

Edmund Ward      Head    M     M     75      Joiner etc     East Torrington, Linconshire
Margaret Ward    Hsekpr   U     F      32    Housekeeper   Market Rasen      "
Elizabeth Ward    Niece     U     F      31                         Market Rasen       "

As I said this is a transcription - I have not viewed original. :)
Maybe you have already seen above and are not sure it is correct .
Looby :)

Thank you both for the info, but now I am a little confused as I thought I had the family upto Goerge Ward together with spouse Margaret, going back to Elizabeth & Margaret (1871) who could this Edmund be ? He could possible be the next generation ?

Thanks

John

Hello Tina, thank you, In my efforts to find all members of the Ward Family & make sense of it, I am unaware of this Edmund, do you know who he wed or where exactly he fits in.

Thanks again Tina

John

Agree with Tinam,

Edmund is Widowed on 1861 transcription but M for Married on 1871 - that could be an error.

WARD       Edmond       Head       W       M       64       Joiner Mastr Employs 8men&3app        Lincolnshire - East Torrington
WARD       John       Nephew       U       M       15       Joiner        Lincolnshire - Market Rasen
WARD       Margaret       Niece       U       F       22       Roper        Lincolnshire - Market Rasen
WARD       Ann       Niece       U       F       18       Dressmaker        Lincolnshire - Market Rasen
HILL       William       Appren       U       M       18       Joiner        Lincolnshire - Usselby

There is a nephew above John and nieces Margaret (also on 1871) and Ann. There is no indication of course whether they are sisters and brother or cousins  :-\

If Elizabeth and Margaret are true nieces, then one would assume that Edmund is a brother to their father(s).
DO you know who their father(s) was/were, and if he/they had siblings?
