Daniel Edward Wilson Elder 1832-1916
« on: Tuesday 27 January 15 14:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi

can anyone help please, trying to find a burial record for my gtgtgrandfather. It says on FreeBmd that his death was registered in Windsor in 1916,but checked Windsor he was not buried there, know he was working in Egham and on censuses there but stuck because not sure which county Egham is in now.

Thank you for your help

In the death indexes Windsor will refer to the Registration District in which he died.
That will cover several parishes, and also cemeteries.
Do you know exactly where he was living when he died? And checked the parish there? Or, If the churchyard was full by 1916, checked the cemetery?

Egham is Surrey, but unlikely he would be buried where he worked rather than where he lived.

Thanks Liz, checked with parish clerk of old Windsor churches and also the municipal cemetery in Windsor and they don't have any burial records for him. In  the 1911 census he is in egham so thought he might be buried there, will check with local parish council there.

Have you got his death cert to see where he actually died?
May not have been Windsor itself, but within Windsor Reg District

Sorry, I don't follow. Your first post said you had found his death on FreeBMD in Windsor Reg District.
That is all you need to know to apply for the death cert. Apply from www.gro.gov.uk giving the ref number from the gro index (that is the number that is on FreeBMD beside the death).
The cert will then tell you where within that district he died.
IF he died in Egham, his death would not have been registered in Windsor Reg District.

It is entirely possible that he died in Egham - which was in Windsor Registration District until 1934.

Sincere apologies if I have been giving duff info! I never knew Egham (Surrey) was ever in Windsor (Berkshire) Reg District!

Doesn't alter the fact that you really need the death cert to see where he died.
