Janette, emmygee,
Here is a photo of the gravestone, kindly sent to me by a chap in the NP Museum.
Thanks for your help, both of you.

Hi J,

A good photo. Just out of interest, what is the connection between Mary Ann and Elizabeth?

Cheers

I have no idea whatsoever. Gollop is a very common and old established name in my home town, Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, they are / were a fishing family. Its not common elsewhere I believe. The association with 'Mary Ann Dorset' just intrigued me, as I live in Dorset. I wondered if Mary Ann, or Marianne, or perhaps her family, had just adopted the name Dorset for some reason or other, many people who emigrated at around that time just wanted to disappear. Now I know of others in the area with that name, thanks to Janette, perhaps a family? I shall talk to a local historian here in Lyme Regis, he is called Gollop, to see if he has knowledge of any Gollops leaving Lyme Regis for NZ around 1800.
One sometimes just gets carried away by what one sees on a gravestone, what stories there!
