Significant events/people in Australian history
« on: Friday 30 January 15 07:02 GMT (UK) »
I have to complete a project/essay about a significant event/person in Australia history, that helped shape Australia one way or another. The date is between 1788-1900, so very broad. Please don't say Caption Cooke or Ned Kelly, or anyone like that. I would love to write about them but everyone is going to write about them, If you get me.

Any ideas?

Thanks  :)

"Father of Australia" .... Governor Lachlan Macquarie .... he established the administrative system in 1810 that eventually became the foundations of all the BDM systems in Australia.

Captain Cook falls outside of your date parameters.
Macquarie is a good choice, as would be Edmund Barton, our first prime minister. A more colourful character would be Charles Kingston, very nearly first prime minister of Australia.  ;)
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.
