Ha! Why yes, I did mean 1858 not 1585!

"Dr Howard and wife" left on Emma Eugenia from Australia to Singapore on 6 July 1858. I was hoping to find someone with this list (or where to find it) so I could check if "Dr. Howard" is John Simpson Howard, and Mary Ann (Sheehan) Howard his wife.

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/66009327?searchTerm=Howard&searchLimits=exactPhrase%7C%7C%7CanyWords%7C%7C%7CnotWords%7C%7C%7CrequestHandler%7C%7C%7CdateFrom&fbclid=IwAR2QDpzynZYuFZA_a6FLxSHAgpN9ojkObSm-TQOCpciudIMRwrgYayHtFa0

Does two months for the arrival in Singapore seem excessive? Perhaps stops on the way?
I saw the ship mentioned in an entry "in the harbour" rather than "arrived"
for August 28th, so it may have arrived much earlier and was waiting to for cargo before departing for China. I've not found any passenger list.

Thanks for looking, Maggie. My Dr. (John Simpson) Howard was back in India by August 26, 1858. I was hoping this was him returning with his wife. He had been the Surgeon Superintendent on the Emma Eugenia's 10 Feb 1858 England to Australia voyage.

We know the Emma Eugenia arrived in Fremantle in May 1858, do we know when she sailed from Plymouth? I have 1856 which I doubt can be right. Surely it left late in 1857? I can find all the convict trips in great detail but not this "bride ship"voyage. Thanks, Geoff

Yes, it certainly is. And it is free! I use it all the time. I recently found a picture of my father in a West Australian newspaper in 1941, on his way to war from Sydney (he was captured when Singapore fell in 1942). He mentioned in a letter home about the picture which one of the other soldiers had been sent from home.

I might have looked on Trove for a Fremantle arrival date, but I didn’t really think of it for an English departure date.

Can anyone help with a passenger list for the EMMA EUGENIA which landed in Fremantle Western Australia on 25th May 1858.

In particular a passenger named Ellen Byrne(s) or Burns(s)

Here is the start of that 1858 passenger list of the Emma Eugenia: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSVT-D9ZW-B. You'll find that there are duplicate pages because of the poor quality of the original documents.

I believe that the only possibily for Ellen is on the first page where an you can find an Ellen <?>, 28Y, a nurse selected from Middlesex.
FYI I’m wondering whether she might have fibbed a bit regarding her age. Could she be the same person as the 27Y old Ellen Burns, a nurse living in Paddington, Middlesex in 1851?
