Wow I am amazed people still don’t realise this was taken in 1939 and has been available to the public (at a (high) cost) since 2009.
http://www.hscic.gov.uk/register-serviceI suggest unless you are desperate for the information you wait until it is released online.
Here is a post I made on a forum in 2009.
“Posted: Tue Nov 10, 2009 6:27 pm Post subject: 1939 National Registration
Not a census but nearly.
Earlier today I received the Information Commissioner's decision with regards to my request for information recorded in the 1939 Registration.
The Information Commissioner has found partially in my favour.
This means that it is illegal for the NHS Information Centre to withhold any information taken under the 1939 Registration if that information relates to deceased persons.
Details enumerated-
1. Names.
2. Sex.
3. Age.
4. Occupation, profession, trade or employment.
5. Residence.
6. Condition as to marriage.
7. Membership of Naval, Military or Air Force Reserves or Auxiliary Forces or of Civil Defence Services or Reserves.
Cheers
Guy”
After I had won the ruling from the I.C. I approached contacts in FindMyPasyt suggesting they digitised the Register a suggestion they jumped at.
After much negotiation with the government department it resulted in their announcement of the release
I am currently attempting to have historic BMDs released and made available online.
This time I need your help, I cannot do this alone.
Please visit
http://anguline.co.uk/ohrn.html for details and email or write to your MP (a number of MPs currently support the release).
I would also ask you to write or email a member of the House of Lords (Baroness Scott of Needham Market) is looking to present a bill in the Lords on this.
Cheers
Guy
