berkshire/fairmile lunatic asylum
« on: Saturday 31 January 15 19:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
I am serching for a place of burial for my great great grandfather. Thomas Justice, Born in 1853 in Yates, Hampshire, he was admitted to the asylum in 1880 (about) and died February 1, 1900 in the asylum. Ive found a census that states he was burried at the asylum cemetery  but i have had no luck.
Much thanks if there is any information.

Welcome to RootsChat, I am sure you will find plenty of people willing to help you.

I am rathe rconfused by you comment that you have a census stating that he was buried in the asylum, can you be more specific about exactly where you found this? The census does not give information  about dead people, or their burial places.

Sorry should have made it clear. Also im in the states, so trying to find info is trying sometimes.
I caught my error. It was the census stating he was there, didnt state death, that was the heritage site, stating death and burial.  My apologies.

Hi,

He was buried 9-1-1900 aged 47 in the Berks Asylum burial ground of Fairmile Hospital, Cholsey, Berks. No other info is listed.

I believe this to be a separate location to the church grave yard as his name is not listed under the
burials for St.Mary, Cholsey.

A CD has been issued by the Oxfordshire FHS - (http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html)
which includes the parish register transcripts of Cholsey ( OXF-WAL01).

You should contact Mark Stevens at the Berkshire Records Office as he has written a book about Fairmile.

The site is actually quite a way from the churchyard in Cholsely (which incidentally is where Agatha Christie is buried).  Moulsford Church is probably about the same distance, if not closer.
