"Top of The Fairground" Wakefield
« on: Friday 06 February 15 16:38 GMT (UK) »
In the 1851 census, my ancestors William & Martha LINFORD are shown as residing at "Top of The Fairground" Wakefield. Looking at nearby properties on the census I think this might be near Westgate. Does anyone know if there were houses at Top of The Fairground, or were they living in a caravan of sorts?
Thanks
Maggie B

If you are looking for info. on Wakefield I recommend you try "Wakefield Family History Sharing" website. ( not Wakefield FHS although that may be useful too).  They have a lot of local knowledge.

Why not download the free Wakefield 1823 map from
http://anguline.co.uk/free.html Then you will be able to see were it is and what houses are located nearby.

The fairground is where the GPO sorting office is now between Ings Road and what is now an extension of George Street.
Cheers
