Looking for Arnold E Holt
« on: Tuesday 05 July 05 06:01 BST (UK) »
Desperately seeking information about the above who emigrated after 1901.  We didn't even know this chap existed but other branches of the family say he went abroad to live.  Have also posted this to the Australian and New Zealand sites with no luck.  I have no idea if he went to the U.S - am grasping at straws on this one.

Arnold E. Holt b. 1882 in Oldham, Lancs.

Can find no trace since the 1901 census.

Would be really grateful if someone could solve this mystery for me.

Thanks

Hi Rachel

Have you thought about Armed Forces ?? Boer War was going at that time - that's when a lot of men go missing around the 1901 census ! Do you happen to have any other details that might help in the search ? occupation - family etc.

Regards

Annie

Thanks for replying Annie - I don't have any info other than what I said.  He was on the 1901 Census still living at home with his mum but then left to go abroad.

He could have stayed in this country for years after that but I just don't know.  Not being able to see the census for 1911 for probably many years yet I won't be able to narrow down the dates.  All I know is that my branch of the family did not know of his existence whilst other did but not what became of him.  The are non of the older generation left for me to ask.  This is one of those times when I wish I had started my research years ago!  I bet we all say that don't we?

Thanks again.

Hi Rachel!

I've been checking shipping manifests for America for the last couple of hours and I can't see anything - checked 1910 1920 1930 census - NADA!! so ....
my advice would be -  to post on Armed Forces board here and see if anybody can find him - there's some pretty knowledgable people on there - and it doesn't hurt to try!! :P :P :P

I'll still keep looking - you wouldn't think they could mess up that name but you never know - I'll post if I find something OK?

Maybe somebody else can pick up the ball and run with it - I'll be sure to let you know if something comes up on my end  :P

Regards
