finding Rhu/Row Scotland cemetaries post WWI
« on: Wednesday 11 February 15 06:46 GMT (UK) »
I am having no luck finding anything regarding my grandmothers brother Thomas Green so I am trying this forum for help. Perhaps finding the right cemetery will reveal some details for us.

When my mother was young she remembers her Mum taking her to a cemetery to visit his grave. Tommy was in WWI and we don't know if he survived it or not. Her mother just said he died too young.

My mother was young in 1945 and not terribly interested in the visit so her memory of it is vague.

She thinks it was in a churchyard in Rhu or nearby. She thought is was on a curved road. The grave was somewhat close to a fence near the road. Mum went back in the 70's and could not find it where she thought it would be.

Does anyone know how many church cemeteries were in Rhu just after the WWI?

Hi

In your topics started on the Dumfiesshire & Surrey boards, you say that your grandmothers surname at birth was Hughes and that her brother died young etc.

Should the surname be Hughes or is this a different Thomas?

The Scottish Association of Family History Societies has an online database which may help you, at http://safhs.org.uk/burialgrounds.asp

Put Row in the middle search box, and you'll get a list of burial grounds in the parish; each name is a link to further information, such as who is responsible for it, when it was in use and whether the MIs have been published. There's also a Google map showing the location of each one.

Arthur
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
