Surrey: Henry GYATT
« on: Wednesday 11 February 15 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Henry GYATT was born c1840 in Guildford, Surrey:  Father also Henry, a Plumber, and Mother, Caroline (nee FOORD).   He spent two years in prison between March 1856 and March 1858.

On 05/05/1861 he married Amelia Elizabeth COLEMAN (age not known) at Holy Trinity, Guildford,  fathers Henry and William being respective witnesses.   Henry had been a Bricklayer.

Can anyone help with further biography please?

Thank you,

BAC3

Hello groom,

I think your suggestion has more than a touch of accuracy........I looked back at the daughter Emma, born 1873, and came up with another entry in 1881 for Henry and Jane GYATT.   I will take these new pieces of evidence and work on the theory he was widowed between 1861 and 1881.

Thank you for the guidance.

For now,

In 1871 he is a lodger in Mill Lane, Guildford - says he is married but his wife isn't with him.

In 1881  High Street 3 Half Moon Passage

Henry   Gyatt       28      Head             General Labourer                   Guildford, Surrey
Jane           Gyatt        46      Wife    Laundress                                        Waltham, Surrey
George   Gyatt        15    Son             Farm Labourer                          Guildford, Surrey
Emma   Gyatt          8    Daughter        Scholar                            Guildford, Surrey

Interesting that George is the same age as the George Wellard in 1891 - is he Jane's son?

suzard,

Thank you for the  COLEMAN family details, excellent grist to the mill.  And it may also help to unearth Amelia's date of death if that is to be the case.

My mistake calling the two fathers witnesses, exuberance on my part finding the marriage information and wondering what Henry GYATT was doing in Alverstoke in 1861 laying bricks!!!

Possible death given the unusual name? Although the age can't be right if she married in 1861.
