Richard Peirce needs improvement
« on: Thursday 12 February 15 13:16 GMT (UK) »
I have found this portrait from around 1780s but would like to use a simpler version, omitting the surround.  If the image could be coloured, so much the better.  He was a sea-captain with the East India Company.

Many thanks
Ainslie

Many thanks to all of you.  I have much admiration for your skill in handling a not very promising subject.
Without being ungrateful, would it be possible to have the uniform changed?  I have now discovered that a commander of the E.I.Co ships at his period would wear a blue coat with black facings, gold trim and buttons and a dark stock or neck-cloth.  Some red was introduced after his time and not welcomed by those expected to wear it! [He was lost with his ship, the Halsewell, in 1786 on the Dorset coast, now more famous for other things.]
