« on: Thursday 19 February 15 03:48 GMT (UK) »
Am doing research on my James CRICHTON in Canada name changed to CREIGHTON
His Parents were James CRICHTON b 1872 Dysart Fife & Ann BELL b 1790 Inverkeithing Fife married 30 May 1814 Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian
On 1881 Census he was at Gainloch, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada with wife Agnes OLIVER? and 4 Children.
I cant find a marriage which would have been about 1848 Pictou, Nova Scotia
I think I have most of his children
Elizabeth b 1849, Anna Bell b 1851( after his mother), Alexander b 1852, Margaret 1853, James 1854, Alfred 1856, Mary 1859, Jessie 1861
I have found the marriages for Alfred, Margaret & Jessie

Cant find any other marriages, more eyes needed lol

All the records I found so far show Agnes' maiden name as Oliver.

Margaret Creighton, daughter of James & Agnes, married 1880 to Robert McLeod
Jessie Creighton married 1885 John Fraser (think you already have this)
Alfred Creighton (died 1936) m.1 (1886) Margaret Matheson, m.2 (1913) Mrs. Georgina Rogers (not sure if you've both marriages)

Alfred's death certificate says buried Durham which is a very old cemetery (first burial 1784) so other family members could also be buried there. Can't find full transcriptions online but a few names are here-

James' (jr) death in 1931 Juab, Eureka, Utah, USA has his birth as February 7th, although it says 1861. He was a miner ( adding: in 1871 census, see next post, he was down a b.1857, has Alfred born before James in 1855))

1900 Hailey, Deer Creek, Ketchum, Muldoon Precincts, Blaine, Idaho https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MM5G-B3R
( 1910) He states he immigrated 1880? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M5XH-5YC
1920 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M8PR-ZZ8
1930 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XH6C-MXS

Margaret's last name is Connelly so I'll see if I can find the marriage in the U.S. will add to this post

Wow, have only found a christening  & birth date in Idaho thus far...under Crayton  :P

1861, six children in household of 8  http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/jpg/4108863_00476.jpg

Gairloch 1871 wife is named Nancy?
http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1871/jpg/4396670_00284.jpg

Margaret Hellen's late birth registration also has her mother as Nancy ( This is usually a nickname for Anne, but we've seen it used for other names incl Agnes)
adding:she also appears to have married again to a Ross Gauirnon?
In 1911 Gannon...with new son & probably son from McLeod marriage, ages & dates all messed up http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=38742

Just noted that in 1871 their religion is noted as PC of L.P.  ( Presbyterian & Free church joined to make the Presbyterian Church of the Lower Provinces)

( although James sr's many siblings were having family around the same time...this one had a child Agnes Anne ( Agnes-Nancy which may have been the actual name of his mother))
so Alexander may have married a Margaret Campbell https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F26D-52X

Nevermind, I am not thinking, as he was on the 1871, and that was his uncle Alexander's child

In Scotland, and amongst those of Scottish descent, Agnes, Ann, Hannah and Nancy are interchangeable.

Thanks aghadowey, good to know! Although what I know today isn't always what I'll REMEMBER tomorrow!  :P ...  Nicknames can be such a pain ( especially when there is no derivitive to recognize ) but I guess we all just can't help ourselves!  J.J.

I don't know where Catherine Connelly  Mother-in-law (maybe Frank died and she remarried) F 67 Ireland comes into it yet.
One of their children is named James Owens Creighton born 1909 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah and I now have his marriage and also two of his sisters Catherine Agnes Creighton & Mabel M Creighton. Still looking for other sisters.. Georgina & Helen
