Census lookup for Ireland
« on: Monday 23 February 15 12:15 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Jane Hunter nee McGuigan b.1856 d.1905  on the Irish 1901 census.  I haven't been able to locate her. In 1900 her daughter Elizabeth  died near Cecil street from TB and Jane signed the death record as living in Wilson's row.  Her husband was in Scotland with the younger children in 1901 but there is no sign of her there.  She died in Ballybot 1905 one year certified with TB.  Her husband James returned to Ireland and died 1908 also of TB.
Perhaps I missed something. Her birth date was 1859 on her death cert.  It also said she was a widow which she wasn't.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

She may well have still been on Wilson's Row at 1901.

Unfortunately, it would seem this Row has not been digitised for 1901.

In 1911, it appears under Newry West Urban (and has the following McGuigan family there http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Newry_West_Urban/Wilsons_Row/255286/ ). If you check the 1901 for Newry West Urban, Wilson's Row is not listed.

It is known that other streets in Ireland were missed when the records were digitised, so it may still be possible that the original census record will exist and that someone could check manually for your Jane.

Hi again, I'm sorry about the lacking information.  Jane McGuigan Hunter was born in Newry 1856. Catholic.   Ballybot was the workhouse now Daisyhill. So anywhere around Armagh, Down.
Thanks

Thankyou Scotsmum,
That is interesting about Wilson's row.  Jane's older children are staying in Cecil street at the time.  She did have a brother Thomas so I will check that census record later. I had trouble finding Wilson's row, it never clicked that it wouldn't have been in the 1901 census.
Thanks a million.
