MASTERS Butchers, Chard, Sumerset?
« on: Friday 27 February 15 20:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Last night I posted in the Dorset page, but it maybe this one that I should have posted in....

I have an old family photo of my great  grandfather as a child standing in front of a MASTERS butchers with his father (although I don't know which one he is) and some other men, perhaps uncles. I would love it if someone could tell me more about the MASTERS butchers and place where the photo was taken and when.

Thanks Kelly

Have you considered contacting the local history society?

I should have thought yesterday that the date of the photo would depend on the birth date of your g grandfather.   The boy in your photo looks 10-12.

So the boy in the photo is James not his son??   Then the photo looks about 1881 but at the time the family were living in Cerne Abbas as the Red Lion with father Alfred being an innkeeper https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X32S-6LJ   I think at the time of the census James P was staying with his Partridge grandparents https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X32S-GT9

This looks like a photo of the Red Lion at Cerne Abbas in about 1900 http://www.barriepictures.co.uk/shop/00945-cerne-abbas-the-red-lion-hotel-c19009  (click on the photo for a bigger image)

Sorry, Kay

I answered that one wrong, The boy in the photo is Alfred John MASTERS, born 1893. One of the men is his father James Partridge MASTERS :)
