« on: Sunday 01 March 15 14:50 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the baptisms at Yspytty-Ifan?

I'm looking for a baptism for Ellis Jones Yspytty-Ifan around 1803.

Many thanks.

There is a Baptism for an Ellis Jones son of John Jones Inn Keeper by his wife Ann on the 10th May 1802 in the Denbighshire Baptism registers, but it doesn't give a village or town.
I have also found a marriage for Ellis Jones in Ysbyty Ifan (stated Ysbytty Evan in the transcription) on the 27th September 1823 to Mary Jones.
Also a death for Ellis Jones 13th March 1872 age 70 years in Ysbyty, Denbighshire
I'm not sure if this is who you are looking for but hope it helps.

Kind Regards

Ellen

The "Denbigh Baptisms", the record set that includes Ellis Jones 1802 identified by Ellenmai, begin with a 9 July 1800  baptism by "John Mostyn, Minister". The 1802 baptism was performed by "John Mason, Curate". Wondered if I could link either to a Church/parish but have only come up with an 1812 reference to a "Rev John Mason, Bodfari" - and "John Mostyn" has drawn a blank.

These early pages are devoid of addresses/place names - will need to check post 1802.

The CCED database has a John Mostyn as sometime curate of Denbigh(1791) and vicar of Gwyddelwern 1797 to his death on 10/04/1801.

http://db.theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp

There is also a more comprehensive record for John Mason(search St Asaph parish)

Roger,
Thanks for that.
I had checked 1802 onwards and reached 1809 still without a place name mentioned. In 1809 the page is signed off "John Mostyn, Curate of Denbigh, Vicar of Llansilin" and 1810 begins with "Clough, Curate of Denbigh".

I,
Yspytty is the Welsh word for Hospital
It's not a place.

The 1802 baptism identified is under Denbigh,Denbighshire. The records I can see also have a change of handwriting  and signature from April 1801 consistent with the death of John Mostyn in that month. He appears to be buried in Bagillt,Flintshire.

Maggsie is half correct. Yspytty is a hospital but Yspytty Ifan is definitely a place South West of Pentrefoelas.

It got its name from the Knights of St John who set up a hospice there. (Ifan is Welsh for John).
