Anna born in Gibraltar

Thank you for this information - where did you find it?

I am certain this is my relative.  It also leads me to believe that when I do order the marriage certificate for Anna it will give her father's name as William Jackson.

I have made several assumptions with this family, which I may need to reconsider.  William was in the army and married in 1856.  Because Anna was born 7 years early (and the youngest child of Antonia 9 years earlier) I assumed they were not William's children.

I cannot find William's service records which would give me a good idea whether he was based in Gibraltar in 1847, only his discharge records which unfortunately do not go into enough detail.

Find my Past indexes show a military reference for Jonas Brindley. One is 1859 and one 1880.
I have no access to the records.
One interesting thing is the 1859 record which shows born 1839 and Norton Staffordshire.

There is a Jonas born Horton Staffs with parents Thomas and Mary Ann. In 1851 he is transcribed as James but it does read Jonas.

Perhaps he enlisted in 1859.

I think he was probably born in Norton Staffordshire.

As I said, I thought it might be a wild goose chase, but I pulled it out as an example to show that there are Gibraltar records on familysearch. Maybe you might hit on lucky with some other search parameters.

That's a pity but it looks like the right chap. 1851, he is born Horton and living there. It looks as though Horton is in Norton sub- registration district, Leek district!

Does the record not say which regiment?

That baptism earlier is from Liverpool Catholic records - they are on Ancestry.

FindMyPast also has baptism or birth record for
Elizabeth Sophia - Fort William, St Patrick, Bengal.
Thomas William - Morar Gwalior
