Thank you Heywood-for your thoughts-I certainly haven't written off 'Kay Heywood'-and good luck with your own research-I have enjoyed sharing a few theories

Just one last note - another bit of a puzzle.

I am fairly sure I have the right family here.
Parents Samuel and Peggy.
A daughter Rachel married Richard Greenhalgh and Kay Heywood was a witness.
The Greenhalghes have one of Kay's children with them in 1861.

Samuel and Peggy had a son John baptised in 1838 who is with Samuel and other siblings and the Greenhalgh family in 1851.

It could be of course that young John is a child of one of Kay's siblings and was reared as son to Samuel but he is baptised as a son.
I wonder why Kay then becomes John Kay?

So much fits the bill-I am keeping all that family in my 'most likely but hope to get more proof' file!!!

Maybe one of their descendants will recognise the names and get in touch!
