John Cooper marriage to Phebe - Reading ? - before 1785
« on: Friday 06 March 15 00:48 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find this wedding but have had no luck on Ancestry, FindMyPast, Familysearch or in Wilts. FHS marriage bonds cd which covers Berks.  Bride's first name is always spelt as "Phebe" on all their children's baptisms.

They have their first child baptised at St Laurence, Reading, in 1785 and all others baptised there too.

Only marriage I've found at all for these names within likely years is 1780 at Kidderminster, Worcs. but there are no following baptisms there.

thanks for any help
Norris / Andover, Poplar, Canning Town, Stratford
Hughes, Cooper, New  / Berkshire
Waugh, Lisle, Davison, Mole, Luke, Dodd / Northumberland
Walton / Cumberland, County Durham, Northumberland
Littlefair / County Durham, Northumberland
Morcumb, Pedler, Warne, Whitford, Arthur, Warmington, Sleap, Docton,Couche / Cornwall
Ross / Middlesex, Hertfordshire
Southgate / Essex
Tarrant/Hampshire

passing comment..... on the marriage that u found did you check to see if Phebe [ Phoebe] came from that place before she married.........

did you check the Phillimore site??????   http://ukga.org/Registers/

scroll down to "Parish registers and Phillimore marriages by County" then click on blue highlighted county.....

just as an idea........

a distance of 170 kms is not that far away for a young couple to move especially if they were seeking employment.......

Thanks so much berkslass that's excellent  8)

Where did you manage to find these ? I can see the marriage on the marriage Berks. Marriages CD now so I assume this is from original register entries for the witness info ?  I've quite a stack of original images to get now so a trip to the Berks. archives is beckoning  :)

Thanks berkslass.  A lot more detail for the marriage  there than on their CD  :-\   I don't suppose the baptism entries give John Cooper's trade do they ? He may have been a weaver.  I've just been through the baptisms CD again and found another child, a John, who was baptised on 1st Dec 1782 and buried on the 4th.  That is not much of a gap, perhaps he was a little premature.  Thanks for the info as that's really  firmed up that family group.
