Come on John, be reasonable! It's nearly midnight here in France. Can I do it in the morning? With the time difference you can study the results while you're munching your cornflakes

Hi John

1841 Pavenham HO107/008-11

Folio 14B
West End, Pavenham
Samuel Partridge 40 Bailiff
Frances Partridge41
Ezra Partridge 10
Martha Partridge 19
Julia Partridge 12
George Partridge 15
All bar Frances born in Beds

Folio 3b
Harriet Partridge 10 Inmate (crossed through) b in Beds
in household of William 45 and Catherine 30 Hulatt.

I'm glad there weren't as many Partridges as Hulatts - every other family seemed to be Hulatt!

Couldn't see any others I'm afraid. Is that enough?

Regards

David

Thanks David, That ties in with later censuses, for Samuel, Ezra & Harriet, although Samuel's wife in later census is Jane born 1798-1801 in Horham or Blockham in Oxfordshire.  Could be Frances Jane or Jane Frances I suppose.
Haven't found a marriage yet either.

Now funny you should mention the Hulatts ..... there's a John Partridge of Thurleigh who married a Millicent Hulatt of Felmersham in 1880 - No I'm not going down that road - I've enough offshoots on the go already. !!!

Cheers John

Hi JP

Might be a dangerous assumption about Frances/Jane. There could be two marriages that you are missing!

NBI: burial Pavenham 15 Apr 1847. Fanny Partridge age 48 (Fanny=Frances)
Other Partridge burials in Pavenham
23 Apr 1847 George age 21
4 Oct 1846 Julia age 17
29 May 1847 Martha age 25

There must have been some sort of epidemic to have 4 family members dying in the space of a few months.

There's a marriage on FreeBMD in Sept 1847 in Bedford reg district, which includes Pavenham, of Samuel Partridge. One of the other halves is a Jane Woodward.  ?? ??

Over to you!

Regards

David

Thank you David  - as ever thanks for the advice

So if Samuel remarried Jane in Sept qtr 1847 he didn't waste much time after Frances died Jun qtr 1847 - where he meet her then  ?  Assuming she is the J. Woodward, there are is a number of that name born Bloxham Oxford on 1861 census. Maybe she was in the area ???

I've found that Jane survived & lived in Bedford 1861 & 1871 & 1881 census & finally died 1887 aged 90.  She was widow on 1861 census but I've not found Samuel's death. Can you check NBI for him between 1851 - 1861 in Sharnbrook ? he'd be aged 51 - 66 give or take a few

best regards . John

David - you gave me this info from 1841 census earlier in this topic

HO107/008-2
Folio 3B
?Strike ? North? House
Thomas Partridge 18 ag lab born in county
in household of Daniel Hipwite 50 miller & farmer

I believe this Thomas to be son of Joseph P & Elizabeth (Young) & was born in Thurleigh (chr 22 JUL 1827). He went on to marry Keziah (Norman).

Can you check name of the miller. I think it should be Hipwell (as that's the name of millers mentioned in an article in Beds Magazine on the 'Partridges of Coffle End', Sharnbrook)  & there is a Daniel Hipwell (miller & farmer) on 1861 census aged 74 b 1787,  living in the house next to Falcon Inn, while 2 houses along is Stoke ? or Strike ? Mills with Thomas Hipwell (miller).

thanks John

Hi John
With the benefit of knowing what it should be, it is probably Mills rather than North, and could just as easily be Hipwell - the e has no loop and what I thought was the dot over the i could just as well be a speck on the image. And the enumerator's final l is half the size of the penultimate one, with a peculiar loop round, but it's the same as his final letter of Daniel, so it is probably Hipwell. Hipwite didn't look rite anyway! I recall Hipwells being flour millers - you may remember my old man was in the trade.

Apologies, I missed NBI request for a follow up to a follow up.... in your previous post! Unfortunately the NBI for Sharnbrook stops at 1851, and he wasn't buried in 1851.

regards

David
