This might be a possibility.
02/11/1828 -  Llanfihangel Ysceifiog : Birth of William Evans to William Evans and Eleanor of Ty'n Y Lon, father referred to as a collier.
I think the area is now known as Pentre Berw, and the entrances to the old coal mines are clearly seen from the main road, the A5. Its about 5-6 miles from Bangor.

Early civil registration for Bangor district did cover parts of Anglesy  -  Llanfihangel Ysceifiog was such a place that later transferred from Bangor to Anglesey East district.  So both birth places could be correct under Civil Registration (BMD and census records)  In geographical terms he was born on Anglesey whereas in local goverment terms he was born in Bangor!!!

thank you very much Mair and Huwcyn. Both bits of information - together are very interesting. I've discovered there were far too many William Evans' and Ellen (+variants of Ellin/Eleanor) Owens in Wales in 1829!
Does Ty'n Y Lon make reference to where Ellen was from or is it Welsh for Owens?
