Hi to you both

I can see the marriage at St Michael's Church, Stanton Harcourt on 7 Feb 1785 after banns. The wits were Thomas PROCTOR & William CRUTCH (he appears as a witness quite regularly). The groom was a bachelor and otp, the bride was a spinster and again otp

No other info relevant to the marriage.

I can also see their baptisms if you want them - let me know

Many thanks Nigel.  I'm still hopeful that these are the right John and Ann - and I don't think that my John was baptised at Witney.

Yes, please. I would like the baptisms.   I hardly dare ask this too, but do this John and Ann Sheppard baptise children at Stanton Harcourt?  My couple have children at Witney in 1786, 1787 and 1789. Ann's second marriage was at Witney 1793, but John was not buried there.

Ok so here is what I have so far and it is feasible that this was your family because there are no records of them in Stanton Harcourt until 1805 - so where were they - in Witney? Possibly?

All the entries were at St Michaels and they all relate to John and Ann of Sutton which is a hamlet just outside Stanton Harcourt.

Deborah B 7 May 1805 Bapt 26 May 1805 Bur 23 Oct 1808 age 3

Ann B 19 Oct 1807 Bapt 25 Oct 1807

Deborah B 23 June 1810 Bapt 24 June 1810

John B ???                  Bapt 14 Feb 1813 Bur 10 Feb 1822 aged 9

James B 14 May 1815 Bapt 21 May 1815

Sarah B 26 Dec 1817 Bapt 4 Jan 1818 Bur 20 Jan 1819 aged 1

Rebecca B 3 Sept 1820 Bapt 17 Sept 1820

Elizabeth B 10 Mar 1827 Bapt 23 March 1827 Bur 4 May 1841 aged 14

There is a burial for a John Sheppard on 3 Feb 1837 aged 64 of Sutton

Hope this helps

Nigel

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post all that, Nigel.   :)

So the Sutton couple would seem to be a different one to the two marrying in 1785 - especially if the father is the John Sutton born c1773.

It still looks good for my Ann being Ann Aldsworth.  (The newspaper report of her death in 1840 says she was 78, but the burial register says 76)

Many thanks for your help, both Nigel and Carol.
