Looking for parents of Maria Weeks & sibling Sarah
« on: Tuesday 17 March 15 10:09 GMT (UK) »
Maria Weeks married Robert Cromp in 1801. She was married by license in London. The license identifies her as 19 years old, birth c1782, and names her mother as Peninnah, a widow. Looking at the name it is likely that this has been mistranscribed. Her history all relates the area of Kent around Frinstead and Charing Kent. There are no clues to her parentage on her 1st or 2nd marriage information. I have copies of both these parish records.

Her 2nd husbands will cites his sister in law Sarah Day of Egerton Kent as an executrix. A marriage between a Sarah Weeks and David Day took place in Egerton in 1799. A witness to this marriage is Maria Weeks. Again there is no clue to her parentage on the marriage record.

Maria's gravestone indicates she died in 1827 in her 45th year, which again indicates a birth in 1781/2.

From census returns for Sarah, the indication is that she was born c1799 in Egerton.

I have exhausted familysearch and now cannot differentiate from one Weeks family to another. Is anyone able to help with this. Many thanks

An online tree gives her parents as John Weeks and Peninnah Smith; they married in 1762 in Egerton, Kent.

Thank you so much Nanny Jan, Kevin and Betty. So it wasn't a mistranscription at all.

Once again many thanks. I didn't think I would get a result so quickly.  :)

It's a nice name and so nice to have such a name to search. I have been working on it being a mistranscription of Susannah... no wonder I was not finding anything
