In Nov 1873 in Middlesbrough, a William Christopher Brown, 22, miner, killed his 4yo son William and tried to take his own life.  His wife's parents lived in Henry Street, Middlesbrough.

Oh dear!  :'(

This chap had a wife called Ann, who was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Onions, so not the chap you're after.  Phew!

It seems I need to work on this birth certificate. It's Joseph Brown, born 1900 in Blaydon who is my wife's g grandfather.

On the Durham thread Mike has suggested that William and Sarah might not be the parents of the person he is interested in (Joseph Brown).

Just read your initial post again and I see you probably have 1901.  William must have died bet 1901 and 1911 as Sarah is a widow with another child Sissie b 1901 still in Ryton.
