Hi

I have just seen some Italian records that are browsable but not indexed.

These records almost certainly contain invaluable information regarding my ancestors.

However, it says that the records are only viewable when using them at a family history centre or to members of the LDS.

My local centre is 20 miles away and is only open during work hours, so is very difficult for me.

Is there any way around this problem, so that I can view these in the comfort of my own home?

I know that it is the condition of the record provider, but I can't see what difference it makes if anybody can still view them.

How can they be browsable yet not viewable, please?

Can give a link to the browsable set, please?

The difference is one is less likely to download the entire collection at the FHC than at one's own house.
Another difference is the record set may have been donated some time ago on condition it was not duplicated (photocopied). By insisting on access via FHC the LDS is complying with the spirit of the requirements.

Guy Etchells is probably correct but have you tried logging into Familysearch before trying to browse the records? You can use the site without logging in but I'm under the impression that some records are only available if you log in.

I've tried that as well.

I went on Familysearch chat to a member a while ago for the same problem but for a different set of records.

They did say it was a condition of the supplier.

Some Italian records are ok to view.

I was hoping that there was a password or something that I could use maybe as a temporary thing.

I don't want to become a member of the LDS, but I wonder if there is a way of becoming part of the family history side without having to join the church itself, and therefore be given a password.

I index and arbitrate for LDS (but am not an LDS member), and I can't see the images.  I've asked an LDS friend if she can though and await a reply.
