census 1861
« on: Wednesday 06 July 05 16:42 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me please trace on the 1861 census returns,

James Strachan
Ann  his wife (nee Kerr)

They lived on a farm called Brae, Keith. They married in 1856, so there should be some children too.
Any help would be great. Thank you.

I am afraid I don't have the 1861 but here are the details of your family from the 1871.

James Strachan aged 43 Head of family occupation Farmer of 111 acres and 62 arable, Born in Aberdeenshire, Tyrie.

Ann Strachan aged 41 born Keith in Banffshire

John Strachan aged 9 born Keith in Banffshire

Margaret Strachan aged 6 born in Keith in Banffshire

Lillie McDonald aged 33 single General Servant born in Keith in Banffshire

Lizzie Herrefin aged 18 single General Servant born in Keith in Banffshire

Joseph Stewart aged 23 single Farm Labourer born in Keith in Banffshire

there are 2 other farm labourers mentioned but the quality of the image isn't great.

James Strachan died aged 73 on June 6th 1901 in Brae, Keith, Banffshire.

His parents are listed as being John Strachan Farmer and Margaret Strachan nee Kenner

I am sure you have the details of the 1881 but if you want them let me know. and James's will is available online too..

Best wishes
