John Gouldson born circa 1826 looking for parents

1841 census -  Looking for parents of the people below :)

Name: John Golson aged 15 born abt 1826 in Walsham Suffolk

Household Members:
Name Age
Sarah Golson 18
Thomas Golson 13
Jane Golson 9

John Gouldson married an  elizabeth?  One of the Children was Jane Agnes Gouldson who married George Henry Hardiman in 1868 in Newington.


The same family in 1841. John is an ag lab, same as in 1851 when he is also a pauper. I think Jane is 9.

Where and when did John marry Elizabeth?  It must have been after 1837 so have you checked freebmd?

A copy of his marriage cert will give his fathers name

1841 entries do not give full birthplace so does the 1851 confirm his birthplace as Walsham and his birthyear as 1826?

1851 census shows born in Walsham John is age 25 Eliza is 24 with Jane Age 3, Thomas 1 and a Sarah age 20 ( don't know if in a Workhouse although does say Pauper.  Can not find a marriage to Elizabeth though.

Just found the 1851 entry - wife shown as Eliza and Jane was 3yrs old so marriage pre-1848

Birthplace confirmed as Walsham and he was 25.  There is also a Sarah Golson aged 20 also b Walsham which does not tie up with Sarah aged 18 in 1841 - all in Stow WH.

You will find the marriage on Family Search as Golson in 1847 and also on freebmd as Golson.

Thank you have found an Eliza Kerry reg March 1847 and Eliza Baker reg Dec 1847 both in Stow on BMD marriages

Hi Amandar,

There are two marriages for John Golson's on freebmd in 1847 in the Stow registration district, which appears to cover Walsham/Walsham Le Willows. The marriages are:

Golson, John; to Kerry, Eliza; March Qtr 1847; Stow; Vol 12 Page 573

Golson, John; to Baker, Eliza; December Qtr 1847; Stow; Vol 12 Page 928
